On Wednesday, Samsung Galaxy Electronics revealed its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S25, which comes equipped with Qualcomm’s chips and Google’s artificial intelligence technology. The company hopes the phone’s upgraded AI features will help boost sales and compete against Apple and Chinese rivals.
The new Galaxy S25 series boasts advanced camera capabilities and enhanced AI features, continuing Samsung’s push to stay ahead in the competitive smartphone market. Despite being the first to launch an AI-powered phone, Samsung struggled to reclaim its top spot last year, with intense competition from Apple in the premium segment and Chinese brands in the more affordable market.
“We’re ahead of the industry in offering AI features,” said Park Ji-sun, executive vice president leading Samsung’s Language AI team. “I believe we are heading in the right direction.”

new version of gemini
The new model runs on Google’s Gemini AI engine, with Samsung’s updated voice assistant, Bixby, also playing a key role in the experience. We’re making it even easier to use Gemini on the Galaxy S25. Simply press and hold the side button, and Gemini will be ready to help you or respond to whatever is on your screen. Plus, we’ve provided access to Deep Research in the Gemini mobile app for advanced users, so you can save hours of research – no matter where you are. The two tools are designed to complement each other, enhancing everything from smartphones to TVs and home appliances.
However, some analysts see challenges in differentiating Bixby from other AI tools. “There’s no standout feature right now that would convince customers to choose this phone purely because of its AI capabilities,” said Thomas Hasson, an analyst at Forrester. That said, he believes the AI features could create a positive “halo effect” around the Samsung brand.
The Galaxy S25 promises a more personalized AI experience, offering a feature called “Now Brief” that suggests relevant items like your calendar, news, and even the temperature and CO2 levels in your bedroom—all based on personalized data that stays on your phone for privacy. It also allows users to perform multiple tasks at once, like finding sports events and adding them to their calendar with a single command.
For the Galaxy S25, Samsung has chosen Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform, opting out of using its own Exynos chips, which marks a significant shift for the company. This move comes despite Samsung traditionally using both to maintain better negotiating power with suppliers. While Samsung didn’t explain why it made the change, a source said the company plans to use its Exynos chips in foldable phones later this year.
The success of the Galaxy S25 is crucial, especially with the challenges Samsung faces in the foldable phone market, which has slowed down due to rising competition from Chinese companies. Samsung’s recent financial report also showed that its fourth-quarter profit fell short of expectations, mainly due to high chip development costs and intense smartphone market competition.
