Blood Moon 2025 live: Total lunar eclipse timing, weather forecast and where to see it around the world
If you’re planning to watch tonight’s total lunar eclipse, your chances will depend on the weather. About three-quarters of the country will be able to see the moon occasionally pass through Earth’s shadow. The eclipse will begin at 2:26 a.m. (Eastern Time) Friday, which corresponds to 11:26 p.m. (Pacific Time), or 0626 GMT. It will last 66 minutes of totality.
If you’re in the Lower Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, Central Plains, or Texas, you may get excellent weather for viewing the eclipse. Meanwhile, a big storm in the northern and central Rockies could cause clouds and rain to obstruct the view from Montana to eastern Arizona and western New Mexico.
Marine clouds may also obstruct the view of the eclipse in parts of the Pacific coast, such as Washington, Oregon, and California. The same may be the case in some areas of the southern states—Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.
Northeast parts, especially Philadelphia, New York and Boston, are also expected to be cloudy due to moisture coming in from the cold Atlantic. However, if you travel a little further west or north from these areas, you may find clear skies.
If the weather doesn’t cooperate this time, don’t worry! The next full lunar eclipse from North America will be on March 3, 2026. Keep an eye on your local weather forecast and enjoy this amazing sight if the skies are clear! 🌕✨
“Who is Aamir Khan’s girlfriend Gauri Spratt? Know their love story and unseen secrets”
Mumbai, March 14: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan surprised everyone by introducing his special friend Gauri to the media ahead of his 60th birthday. The incident came after the superstar’s ex-wife and ‘Missing Ladies’ director Kiran Rao announced their divorce in 2021 after 16 years of marriage.
Gauri is the third important woman in Aamir’s life. The actor was first married to Reena Dutta, and later married Kiran Rao. Interestingly, Aamir met Kiran on the sets of the Oscar-nominated film ‘Lagaan’, in which his first wife Reena was also associated as an executive producer.
Aamir was married to both Reena and Kiran for 16 years each, after which they decided to separate. He has two children with Reena—Junaid and Ira Khan. Junaid recently starred in ‘Loveyaapa’ and his debut streaming film ‘Maharaj’, while Ira married fitness expert Nupur Shikhare last year. He has a son, Azad, with Kiran, whom they raise together even after their divorce.
There have also been rumours of the superstar’s relationship, especially with his Dangal co-star Fatima Sana Shaikh, though he has never commented on it. Aamir confirmed that Gauri is an old friend of his, and they reconnected a year ago. His cousin Nuzhat Khan, who is also Gauri’s friend, arranged their reunion when Gauri came to Mumbai a few years ago.
Gauri, who is a mother to a six-year-old son, looked quite nervous in front of the media. Even Aamir’s PR team had to intervene and urge the media to be patient. During the conversation, Aamir also revealed that Gauri has met two of Bollywood’s biggest superstars—Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.
“Sheikh Hasina will become Prime Minister again, youth made a mistake” – claims close aide
US Awami League Vice President Dr. Rabbi Alam expressed concern over the current situation in Bangladesh and said that Sheikh Hasina will soon return to the post of Prime Minister. He claimed that the country’s young generation has made a mistake, but they are not fully responsible for this, rather they have been manipulated.
Dr. Alam thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Government of India and said that India gave safe shelter to Sheikh Hasina and also ensured a safe travel route for her. He said, “Bangladesh is being attacked and the international community should pay attention to this. This is not just a political rebellion, but a terrorist rebellion.”
Seizure of Sheikh Hasina’s properties
A Dhaka court ordered the seizure of several properties of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family. These include the Sudasadan residence in Dhanmondi and 124 bank accounts.
Bangladesh government objects
The Bangladesh government objected to Sheikh Hasina’s social media statements to India, claiming they were false and provocative. A protest letter was handed over to the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, appealing to India to stop Hasina from making such statements.
Arrest warrant and ouster from power
In January, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) issued an arrest warrant against Sheikh Hasina and 10 others. On August 5, Hasina was removed from power following student-led protests that left over 600 people dead. Following this, an interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus was formed and 77-year-old Sheikh Hasina moved to India.
Dr Alam is confident that Sheikh Hasina will soon return as Bangladesh’s prime minister.

“Gyanesh Kumar Appointed New Election Commissioner: Key Details and Significance”
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday criticized the selection process for the new chief election commissioner (CEC), calling it “disrespectful and inconsiderate” for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to make a “midnight decision.” He raised objections over the exclusion of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) from the selection committee, arguing that this move undermines the credibility of the Election Commission, especially with a Supreme Court hearing on the matter scheduled within the next 48 hours.
On Monday, the Centre appointed Gyanesh Kumar, a 1988-batch Kerala cadre IAS officer and former parliamentary affairs secretary, as the new CEC. The selection panel included PM Modi, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi, who participated in the meeting, expressed his dissent on X, stating: “During the committee meeting to choose the next Election Commissioner, I submitted a dissent note to the PM and HM, highlighting that the most crucial aspect of an independent Election Commission free from executive interference is the process of selecting the Election Commissioner and chief election commissioner.”
Gandhi further accused the Modi government of disregarding a Supreme Court ruling by excluding the CJI from the selection panel, calling it a move that “deepened the concerns of millions of voters about the integrity of our electoral process.”
“As the LoP, it is my duty to uphold the values of Babasaheb Ambedkar and our nation’s founding leaders and hold the government accountable. It is both disrespectful and inconsiderate for the PM and HM to have made a midnight decision on selecting the new CEC when the composition of the committee and the process are under challenge in the Supreme Court, with a hearing due in less than forty-eight hours,” Gandhi added.
The Congress party issued an official statement on Monday, stating that the meeting should have been postponed until the Supreme Court delivered its final ruling on the composition of the selection panel. “The Congress party believes that since the Supreme Court will hear the matter on February 19 and issue a decision on the committee’s composition, today’s meeting should have been postponed,” the statement read.
Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi also condemned the government’s actions, suggesting that the exclusion of the CJI was an attempt to exert control over the Election Commission rather than ensure its integrity. “By removing or attempting to exclude the Chief Justice from the CEC appointment process, the government has made it clear that they want control, not credibility. The credibility of the Election Commission is paramount,” Singhvi said.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi raised the issue in Parliament, questioning the Prime Minister about the decision to exclude the CJI from the selection panel. “The rules have changed. The election commissioner used to be selected by the Prime Minister, the leader of the opposition, and the Chief Justice. Why was the Chief Justice removed from the committee?” he asked. This referred to the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act, 2023, which altered the selection panel’s composition by excluding the CJI.
The appointment is significant as the current CEC, Rajiv Kumar, is set to retire on February 18. Gyanesh Kumar will become the senior-most Election Commissioner following his departure, with his tenure lasting until January 26, 2029.
A mild 4.0-magnitude earthquake rattled Delhi-NCR in the early hours of Monday, sending shockwaves across the region. Following this, a series of minor tremors were recorded in Bihar, Odisha, and Sikkim. While no casualties or property damage were reported due to the low intensity, the seismic activity has once again drawn attention to the looming threat of the Great Himalayan Earthquake.
Experts Warn of a Major Himalayan Quake
Seismologists have long warned about an impending high-magnitude earthquake in the eco-sensitive Himalayan region. Since the 2015 Nepal Earthquake, experts have predicted that a massive quake of magnitude 8 or higher could strike the Himalayan belt, severely impacting the Gangetic plain.
Renowned geophysicist Roger Bilham has emphasized that it’s not a matter of “if” but “when” the next major earthquake will hit. In an interview with the Times of India, Bilham explained that the Himalayas experience large earthquakes every few hundred years, with historical records showing tremors as strong as 8.7 magnitude over the last 2,000 years.
However, in the last 70 years, the region has not experienced a quake above magnitude 8.0. For context, the 2015 Nepal earthquake measured 7.8 on the Richter scale, killing 9,000 people and devastating parts of Kathmandu.
When Will the ‘Big One’ Strike?
The Himalayan earthquakes are caused by the Indian Plate colliding with the Eurasian Plate, creating immense geological strain. According to experts, only a major earthquake can relieve this built-up pressure.
In a 2018 study, Indian researchers predicted that the next mega earthquake could strike the region between Dehradun and western Nepal. Scientists at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) in Bengaluru have analyzed past earthquakes in India and neighboring countries, indicating a significant tectonic build-up in the region.
According to a 2019 report by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Delhi falls under Zone IV on India’s seismic risk map, indicating a high earthquake hazard. The city’s vulnerability is due to the Delhi-Hardwar Ridge, which extends under the Ganga Basin and increases seismic risks. Major Indian cities from Delhi to Shimla remain highly susceptible to earthquakes.
Why the Next Himalayan Earthquake Could Be Catastrophic
Seismologists warn that a large-scale earthquake in the Himalayas would be particularly devastating because of its land-based epicenter. Unlike ocean-based earthquakes, which may dissipate some energy in water, a Himalayan quake would directly impact densely populated regions. This puts over 300 million people at risk.
Additionally, urban infrastructure in India is highly vulnerable to seismic shocks. Experts fear that many high-rise buildings in major cities lack earthquake-resistant structures, increasing the potential for massive destruction.
With growing concerns about seismic activity in the Himalayan belt, preparedness and disaster management have never been more critical. Authorities urge residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to minimize risks in the event of a high-intensity earthquake.
